My first encounter with God was someone approached me outside the Toa Payoh Community Library and shared the gospel with me. I was twelve then. I realized that God loves me and that He alone can give me purpose and meaning in my life. I prayed and received Jesus Christ as my personal savior.
Although I grew up in a non-Christian environment, God led me to attend ‘Fisherman of Christ Fellowship’ through my Secondary One Literature teacher. At church, I experienced the love and encouragement from brothers and sisters. The Lord made me realized that the things I did were often wrong. Whenever I was reproved by the Holy Spirit, I would confess my sins before God and experienced the peace and joy that came with God forgiving my sins. The work of the Lord also brought changes in my attitudes towards my family members and friends. I learnt to be forgiving and how to discern between right and wrong, and knew that God wanted me to do the right things.
However, I did not show God the love He deserved. As years went by, I slowly began to drift away from God. In spite of my lack of commitment and gratitude, God still remembered me. God continued to answer my prayers in times of need. God in his loving-kindness brought my family to ‘Oikos Christian Church’. Our attendance gradually grew into a more regular pattern. I am thankful to the Lord for bringing my family and I back to Him.
Though the Lord allows problems and trials in my life, He is with me through every testing, encouraging and strengthening me always. Truly, God is always faithful to His own promises. Hebrews 13:5 tells us that God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
